Tashkent says Goodbye to Trams

Since April 22 2016, Tashkent has closed all its tram routes. The decision to abolish the tram system was made without any coordination with the Tashkent residents.

According to documents available to Eltuz.com, only five years ago, Uzbekistan had bought 20 new modern-style trams worth 19.8 Mio Dollars from the Czech Republic. The Uzbek side had paid for each tram a sum that is four times higher than its market value. It remains unclear, for what reason Tashkent had agreed to such a high purchase prize, and what will happen with the modern trams that have become redundant now.
