“With your old passports you can get home on a flying carpet!”

Since January 1, 2016, Uzbek citizens are allowed to leave Russia only with biometric passports of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This has been announced by the national airline “Uzbekistan Airways” on January 12, 2016.

As stated by the Border Service of the Russian Federation, citizens of Uzbekistan who only have old Uzbek passports are not allowed to cross the Russian border neither through its airports, seaports, nor by train or car. Uzbek citizens who try to cross the border of the Russian Federation with their old passports will have to pay a penalty fee.

“Uzbekistan Airways” announced that from now on, the airline will only serve passengers who are in possession of biometric passports. Uzbek citizens living in Russia and not having had the time to get their passports replaced will have to obtain a special certificate from the Uzbek Embassy in Russia giving them the right to return to Uzbekistan.
