“We sell the child and I’ll buy a car for my husband”

According to the publishing house “Huquq”, Khalid Sharipova, mother of five children, lived in a Sharia marriage with Sharifjon Burkhonova. When she became pregnant with her the sixth child, talking with her sister, she decided to sell her child.

To do so, the two sisters asked the chief physician of the local hospital Zubaydah Akhrorova to assist them in the sale of the child. The female doctor found a “buyers” in Odin Madaminova whose child had just recently died.

By agreement, the mother of the child was to receive$ 1,800, and Doctor Akhrorova$ 400 for her mediation. The transaction however was not successful: the women were caught and punished. This is not the first case related to the sale of children in Uzbekistan.

The other day, newspapers of the city of Kabul reported about a case in the Afghan province of Maimana, where an Uzbek family had sold their child to spend the money on family needs.
