Operation “Chopper”

In Uzbekistan, a campaign against farmers called “chopper” has been launched. By the order of Prime Minister Mirzijaev, farmers who are not able to comply with the plan for cotton, should return their land to the state and pay back the loans they received for growing the cotton.

Cotton is an unprofitable business for the majority of Uzbek farmers, but it is a prerequisite for the obtaining land leased from the state.
