Doctors and teachers were turned into insect catchers with spoons

In early July Eltuz.com received eyewitness accounts that educators were engaged to manually destroy insects harming cotton fields. This occurred in the Ferghana, Andijan and Namangan regions.

A biologist interviewed by the Eltuz-correspondent argued that getting rid of insects manually is meaningless. However, officials have high interest in this method. Firstly, it is a convenient way of cheating on the authorities. In addition, this method is quite lucrative, since public sector employees who refuse to go to the fields have to pay ten thousand soums per day.

This mobilization of educators aimed at controlling insects inspired the artist Ace as well, who he came up with a slogan for the event: “I saw the shovel, begin hammering!”
